Carbon Neutral

Nimbus Water Systems First To Earn CarbonNeutral® Certifications

UPDATE – January 2012:
Nimbus Water Systems has renewed their certification as a carbon neutral manufacturer. Nimbus’
status was certified by The CarbonNeutral® Company, a leading carbon management business. To earn this certification, an independent third party performed a rigorous assessment of the CO2 emissions associated with Nimbus’ energy consumption, transport of raw materials, business travel, manufacturing waste disposal and employee commuting. The CO2 emissions were then reduced to net zero through a combination of internal reductions and external reductions in the form of high quality carbon offsets. Nimbus has chosen the Garcia River Forest project for their carbon offset investment.

The Garcia River Forest Project uses conservation-based forest management to reduce carbon emissions. The emission reductions have been verified to the Climate Action Reserve (CAR). The project was initiated in early 2004 with the goal of returning a 24,000 acre tract of coastal forest to an ecologically and economically viable state. The project will absorb and store carbon emissions by ensuring high forest growth rates and the development of a larger, denser composition of redwood and douglas fir.

DECEMBER 2009
In December 2009, Nimbus Water Systems became the first U.S. water treatment equipment company to be awarded certification as a CarbonNeutral® company. In addition, the Nimbus WaterMaker Five reverse osmosis system achieved CarbonNeutral® product certification.

“All of us at Nimbus are very proud of our new CarbonNeutral® certifications. We have been changing our corporate culture and retooling our product line in an effort to be more environmentally friendly. Getting an independent assessment and certification for our efforts in reducing our carbon footprint has been an important part of the process,” remarked Anthony Capone, President of Nimbus Water Systems.

To earn these certifications, Nimbus completed a program laid out by the CarbonNeutral Protocol, an industry leading proprietary standard developed by The CarbonNeutral Company, as an effective framework for organizations taking voluntary action on climate change. The process involved an independent third party performing a rigorous assessment of the CO2 emissions associated with Nimbus’ energy consumption, transport of raw materials, business travel, manufacturing waste disposal and employee commuting. Following the measurement of the CO2 emissions, they were then reduced to net zero through a combination of internal reductions and external reductions, in the form of high quality, robust and permanent carbon offsets. The entire process was carried out by The CarbonNeutral Company, a world leader in carbon management and carbon offsets.

Nimbus chose two U.S. projects for carbon offset investment: a conservation-based forest management project in the Big River/Salmon Creek Forests in Northern California, verified to Climate Action Reserve – Forestry Protocol; and a methane capture project at the McKinney Landfill near Dallas, Texas, verified by the Climate Action Reserve –Landfill Gas Protocol.

Mark LaCroix, Executive Vice President, Business Development said, “We would like to congratulate Nimbus on the commitment that it has taken in measuring and reducing CO2 emissions to net zero. By taking responsibility for company and product emissions Nimbus is demonstrating clear environmental leadership to its customers.”

Nimbus Water Systems has been manufacturing water treatment equipment for homes and businesses worldwide since 1968. Nimbus is proud to offer a wide range of quality products from 10 gpd portable units to 50,000 gpd commercial systems. Anthony Capone has served as president of Nimbus Water Systems since 2003. Under his leadership, Nimbus has focused on innovative product development including eco-friendly residential and commercial systems under the Green by Design® label.
